Anybody out there have any suggestions where F-84F tires (main and nose) can be obtained? And for the really rare; pylons and drop tanks?

Just was looking for background information on the F-84F when I saw your post. As it so happens, I have a complete F-84F nosewheel with tire (incl. spare bearing set), rescued from scrapping from the Dutch Air Force in 1986. The tire is a 20x4.4 10-ply from Goodyear (made in Luxemburg) and is in excellent condition. On the rim of the wheel the following numbers are cast/stamped:

Assy nr. 9530499
Sub-assy nr. 9521045
Part nr. 9530511

On the center part of the wheel the following information is contained:

Date-Serial: 1051-1994
Heat: 850-60

I hope this is enough info to identify if this is what you're looking for. If so, I would be willing to part with it for a small compensation. Just let me know. Looking forward to your reply.

Have you tried contacting any museums with F-84Fs to see if they have any spares they could part with? Last year I was at the Pacific Coast Air Museum in Santa Rosa, CA and they have an F-84F they were working on. I can send you the contact info. for the man in charge of the planes there if you want. Perhaps he may have some ideas for you. I was also at the Oakland Aviation Museum, they have an RF-84F receovered from China Lake. Have you tried the Texas Air Museum in Slaton, TX? I also have the contact info. for someone there if you want it.

On a related topic, I don't suppose you have the SEA camo TO for the R/F-84F that you could post or send me?

So far I have not contacted any of those museums. The F-84F went out of service with the ANG about 40 years ago and all those Sleds I remember at MASDC during the 80's are long gone. Too bad I can't locate any parts from them!

The 20 x 4.4 nose wheel tire is still available from Goodyear. Its a 14 ply instead of 10, and is still used on the T-38.

If you can get the sizes on the main tires you can probably get them too.

Were any F-84Fs actually sent to Southeast Asia in that scheme or were they all stateside by then?

Chris - By the time that the SEA scheme came into use the 366th TFW was the only active unit left flying the Sled. That unit was stationed at Holloman AFB at the time and I am not sure that any of the F-84s assigned were ever camouflaged. The 366th transitioned to the F-4C in late 1965 and the F-84s were gone from Holloman by 1966. The Air Guard flew them until 1971 and most were in camo by then. The ANG units did deploy to Europe during that time, but I am not sure about the far East. Certainly not to SEA with the F-84s. Turkey, Greece and Belgium flew F-84Fs and RF-84Fs in the camo scheme as well.

Hi, I have a pair of pylons for the F-84. Bob 614-551-6360

Not sure what is happening with the Walter Soplata aircraft that were still at Newbury, but I think I remember his F-84F (an ex-ANG bird in Vietnam-style camo) wearing drop tanks; he also had parts of an RF-84F.

The F-84 pylons I have came from walter about 30 years ago in a trade deal.

Interesting! "About 30 years" could be post-summer 1984, which was the last time I was at Walt's place; maybe your pylons are the same set I think I saw on the F-84F. Or not, since he had parts of more than one 84...

Brad - When I started preparing the artwork that I used to show what our airplane would look like when finished the only color photo I found was of 52-9089 in the color section of FAMOUS AIRPLANES OF THE WORLD no. 61. She was with the Texas ANG and I was looking for a Tex ANG airplane to use as reference, so 9089 became the one I illustrated. We hope to move inside the hangar next week and finally start painting.



Bob - I passed along your contact info to Chuck at War Eagles. Are those inboard, or outboard pylons? Don't happen to have canopy glass too do you?

(A little side note: When I made the drawing I mistakenly drew a pitot tube on the port wing. In all the time the drawing had been posted no one commented on that! Today I corrected that, so maybe I do not have to admit my error.)
