To be fair, this forum is someone else's living room -- Scott Rose's living room.

It's not a democracy, or a representation of the US as a whole, or anything else. It represents Scott's sandbox where we can choose to gather and talk warbirds. He's established a set of rules for people who come to his living room and talk warbirds, and one of those rules has to do with language. We agree to play by those rules when we come here.

Think what you will about it -- if you don't like the rule, you're welcome to take your discussion and participation elsewhere.

THere are always plenty of words which suit me just fine instead of using foul language like I normally do. Makes me think a little sometimes coming up with a proper adjective.

FYI the software that powers this site is, for the most part, is off the shelf phpBB code (although customized). This is free, open source software that powers not only this site but thousands of other web forums, and this is the default behavior of the software.

You can use those bad words like, fu ck or sh it, & he ll like that or put a _ in between fu_ck and sh_it the filter won't catch it and you still get the same effect as if you spelled it out. ya just gotta know the tricks!

As Ryan explained it's an automatic feature. I think it helps with a PG sort of rating on parental controls. If you want to post
historic wording, you have to be a little creative. H*lls Bells etc.....
