what are the chances of a WWII Lockheed being sunk in the pacific? so it must be fred and Amelia cause no Lockheeds were lost in the pacific.or were some?

Actually ... a quick Google search shows that RG shared that same PV-1 theory (along with a possible individual aircraft loss) in an online Earhart search forum back when the Bougainville wreck story was first publicly reported almost six months earlier...

Wikipedia's page on the PV-1 features this photo of a USMC Ventura night fighter variant attatched to VMF(N)-531
(the "Grey Ghosts") squadron. This unit was based out of Piva airfield on Bougainville around the same time as the loss
described on the "Pacific Wrecks" site (http://www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/pv-1/33254.html) that WallyB pointed
out earlier in this thread.
