How cool is that? It is obvious that RG read MY posting here on WIX. That is the ONLY conclusion I can draw from his statement!!!

Actually ... a quick Google search shows that RG shared that same PV-1 theory (along with a possible individual aircraft loss) in an online Earhart search forum back when the Bougainville wreck story was first publicly reported almost six months earlier...

<< August 30, 2010
It took TIGHAR researcher Art Rypinski about six hours to find a likely candidate for the plane reportedly found in the Solomons. On February 3, 1944 a Lockheed PV-1 "Ventura" was lost in Buka Passage off Bougainville. >>

Wikipedia's page on the PV-1 features this photo of a USMC Ventura night fighter variant attatched to VMF(N)-531
(the "Grey Ghosts") squadron. This unit was based out of Piva airfield on Bougainville around the same time as the loss
described on the "Pacific Wrecks" site (http://www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/pv-1/33254.html) that WallyB pointed
out earlier in this thread.
