T6s at Refugio Texas

Continuing my recent visit to Texas, I stumbled across an open hangar at a small strip in refugio which had a T6 under restoration and a further T6 frame nearby which I guess may have been used as a spares source for the first. Sadly, apart from a big old retriever there was no-one about I could ask for identity details !
Anyone out there happen to know which T6s these are ? Texans in Texas - I guess I should have expected them !!

Can you go to Google Maps and look at Rooke Airport in Refugio ( I assume this is where the T-6's are) and point out which hangar is the one with the T-6's in it?

Walt, it is to the east and north of runway 32.
We had come in off the route 77 along Kelley Road.
The road turns right with straight ahead taking you
into the airport.
Where it turns right follow for 50yds and then take
the left and left again for the hangar which appears
on Google Earth at 28 17 23 89 North and 97 19 05 28 west.

As I am in Scotland its not so easy for me to drop in
myself . . . !!

How does someone from Scotland end up of all places in Refugio Texas? I hope you ate at Moya's! We have a VERY small family farm in Bonnie View and I used to fly in and out of Rooke a bit. Didn't know there was a restoration going on there, but I did see an ad sometime back for some SNJ-2 parts for sale. I'm interested as well to know what's going on out there. Next time in the area I'll swing by the FBO and see if I can get some info.

Well, when you love aircraft as much as I do, you travel
the world to enjoy them !!
Passing Refugio en route from Kingsville NAS to Houston
so I dropped in "on spec" and came up with a pair of
T6s ! You just never know what's hiding in the back of
ANY hangar !!!

It would be interesting to hear how a feriner pronounces that there City!For you out of Staters it is Ru-fur-e-o, not Ru-fug-i-o.

I have known it forever because my uncle and aunt used to live there. Actually, I think our family's always pronounced it more like Ru-feerio

Well, we Scots call it Reff-ooo-gee-o and we always roll our arrs !!
Just like when we call T6s Harrrvarrrrds !

Wasn't really a warbird vacation - we were in Dallas for Superbowl
weekend then headed down to San Antonio via Austin and San Marcos
before heading via Hondo and Uvalde to Del Rio for Laughlin AFB.
Then back to San Antonio for Randolph AFB, down to Kingsville NAS
then back to Houston for a flight back home ! Picked up what I could
en route - including a seat in Glamorous Glen III at Uvalde.

Love the US - just need a little more pay to let me visit more often !

I see N6171C an SNJ4 is still registered to Gary R Henry of
Refugio Tx and he has a cessna 182 and Pitts registered in
the same name (the Pitts was in the hangar too) but sadly
not another "T6" . . . but then it probably has been
de-registered for some time as it is simply a frame and not
a large frame at that !
So I guess I've got half my answer which is better than none !!

Hey, aircraft are not always based where they are registered! :idea:

It's possible that there is another one there that IS registered, or some other explanation.

Yea I got to Hondo and got some lovely shots of your smashing Dak !!!
In good condition on the outside from what I could see !!!

And yes, I know aircraft can be registered a long way from where you'll find them !
Delaware addresses, Nevada addresses and so forth can mask a multitude of sins !
Hey, as long as they get into the air they can be registered in Ulan Bator for all I care !!!
