This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Next weekend right??
Weather permitting that's the plan. I'm going to try and get up there Thursday evening or Friday morning if everything goes as I'd like. I want to go spend some time at our ranch while I'm at it.

The Rose in the air!We have put 3 good hours on her so far and the new engine is performing exceptionally well and has exceeded our expectations completely so far. We'll fly again tomorrow and Friday, plan to make a short hop to the Burnet Air Show. We will continue to put some time on her and, soon, plan to put our pilots through their Ride For Hire check rides so we can get back in business. Just thought I'd post a couple of photos of the Rose where she looks the best - in the air!
Here she is climbing out over some farmland near San Marcos.

Here, she passes by above our T-6 chase plane. Jim Liles shot the photos from the back seat.

Both of these shots were taken this past Saturday. Sure wish that the cloud cover had broken, the Rose looks even better against a clear blue sky!

We are planning on making Hondo and we have a really terrific OPS officer now who is working on several other appearances. Thanks again for your support and encouragement. We're looking forward to seeing everyone this summer!

I recently saw a picture of the old nose art on the Yellow Rose I thought it was pretty nice. I do like the current nose art too.

By The Way...
We are trying to figure out how we're going to pay for the new engine on the Yellow Rose and we have several fundraisers in progress or coming up. Couple of my comrades got in touch with artist extraordinaire, Django, and they worked out a t-shirt that we are selling to raise funds to help pay for the new engine.

This is the back of the shirt. There is nothing on the front and, right now, it only comes in this brown color, though other shirt colors are being discussed.
I have two! For a mere $25.00 (which includes postage and handling), you can have one of these eye catching shirts and help us to keep a beautiful warbird in the air. Please email Bill Fier at
yellowroseb25@yahoo.com and he will get your shirts right out to you without delay!
You know you
always need another t-shirt but more importantly, we all want to keep as many of these proud old planes flying as we can. Please help us out if you can...
Thanks!

Very Nice! BTW, does that brown happen to match the color of oil stains thrown by a R-2600?

I was thinking the same thing Holedigger...or a nice black for high time before oil change..

Nah, the brown t-shirts don't quite hide the oil stains. I can be spotted easily any day at the Cobra Den because I wear black shoes, pants, shirt, and, usually, hat. And thats not because I'm depressed...

We always had a lot of fun getting people in the picture holding up the Rose with one hand. It helped with the PX doing so. Then again there was a time a couple asked of they could take a picture on the other side from us and not to come around and watch. I think it would have been a tie between the two...

Can you all post the address to mail a check for the T-shirts or y'all taking plastic??

As long as I'm not marshalling in Ray, it will be a great day in Hondo....

Must be April, the winds will be busy Saturday as they are forecasted to 15-25 gusting to 35. Since it isn't Flying Wild Alaska and the Skater Dude won't be around, guess I'll stand down....

I may have to stand down wind or no wind. It looks like I'm going to be car shopping instead!

I got recurrent in the Rose yesterday. Nice day, other than the 30 degree right crosswind blowing 17 gusting to 23! We put about another 1.5 on the engine, and three landings before lunch. Then another crew went out after that to get another recurrent. The Rose is doing great! It sure was nice to get "back in the saddle" again!
