USS Iowa to LA?

Mon Apr 11, 2011 10:53 pm

They held a big rally to move the USS Iowa to San Pedro this past weekend, found this online...

"In September, Los Angeles City Council approved a resolution to support berthing the historic battleship at the Port of Los Angeles, and on Saturday, dozens of supporters turned out for a rally that included a fireboat display and a flyover by World War II aircraft. Backers in favor of bringing the boat to Los Angeles say "the battleship could draw hundreds of thousands of tourists to San Pedro," notes CBS."

Gotta wonder whose WWII birds overflew the little shindig....any ideas? Personally I don't care if it's in San Fran or LA....either would be fine, 'cept I plan on attending the America's cup in 2013 in San Fran so it WOULD be more convenient to see it there.

Sure hope they resolve the issue soon.

Mark

He said something about radar images of the ship, but I was under the impression he did'nt have all that shiny new equipment hooked up yet...

CBS News refers to the Iowa @ 887 feet long and 45000 tons as a 'boat'!?! To them does that make Mexico City 'a nice sized town'?

Perhaps NASA should be in charge of placing the Iowa. They can send it to the moon!

Bummer that it's not going to S.F. (where my brother lives) but I'm glad to hear she's going to be saved and not cut up!!

San Francisco did not want the Iowa unless the Navy made an area to show Gays and Lesbians contributions to war. It would have been great to have her sit by the USS Pampanito and the Jerimiah O'brian as it would be great income for the City. The Supervisors of the city are very short sighted by trying to re-segragate the military instead of showing the sacrifice of all that area as a team together. Oh well revenue lost. I am surprised that the Alameda didn't try as the USS Hornet is there. I am just glad she will be preserved.

I just noticed that this article is from 2006 so is that really still valid?
