Fri Apr 15, 2011 7:32 pm

Taken yesterday during engine tests is this beauty. And all going well I'll actually get to see it fly at Classic Fighters a week today!!

And first engine start:

Theres also the prototype new build FW190 that is also nearly ready to fly. However the FW190 has actually flown before being prepared for its new owner here in New Zealand. However its final flight test got put off due to the severe weather in Germany. Theses videos taken mid week show the awesome progress:

That shot reminds me of when TFC's example was being finished in Chino. Would be nice to seem them together one day.

OK now we can "go at it" as far as very important things such as paint color, markings etc. go on the two Pearl Harbor P-40's are concerned. BTW both are absolutely stunning. And the third and fourth in AVG markings ... wow! Love early P-40's, all we need now is one in an RAF scheme. :D

BTW obviously these are not my photos, hope I don't get in trouble for posting them. If someone gets offended, I'll remove them.

Hopefully the FHC Tomahawk IIB will be repainted shortly in an authentic Russian scheme rather than a flase AVG one.

First story.

Hopefully the P40E will also be completed in its authrntic scheme as well when completed. Not massive amount of artwork but still authentic which is always my perfered scheme over anything that just looks good.

regards

MS

AK295 and AK255 were also Ex- Soviet lend lease examples.

Here you go here's the latest engine run, this time with the pilot who will be doing the flying while she is here, John Lamont. Doesn't she look and sound fantastic?

Would have thought John Lamont not Lanham was doing the test flying....

Looks to be in the pic posted doing engine runs.

Thanks for the post! I thought this project was on the back burner.

Bonus points to the restoration crew for painting the back of the wheels Neutral Grey. This is the first time I have seen someone get that little detail right.

I remember reading that one of the P-40B/Cs recovered from the former Soviet Union had a live 500 lb. bomb strapped to its belly, and when it was lifted by helicopter, the bomb went off, the helicopter was knocked out of the sky, and people died. This isn't "that" P-40B/C is it? It looks too pretty to have suffered that kind of damage.

Ahh my little dragonflydh90 spy (baz62 here :D ) yes you are correct, John Lamont is in the photo posted by Franklin photo taken by Colin Hunter, apparently the video I posted above has Warren at the helm according to the photographer.
And apparently the P40C has ..................................................................................FLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was supposedly when the TFC/FHC P-40 was recovered. I quizzed my Russian buddies about it and they said it wasn't true.

That story is bunk.Think about it just how would the bomb stay on the plane during a belly landing?I called bunk at the time of the telling. It was to keep us out of russia back in the day.It didnt work and we got more than a few planes(P-40s) out back then.Shepair has the numbers

I can remember when the idea of having just a single P-40B/C on display somewhere seemed like a pipe dream. Now there is one on display and three flying! I'm not usually a fan of "progress" but this is the kind of progress I do like.

Very cool! Love the markings.

How far along is the Russian P-40? I agree, it would be cool to see in the correct markings.
