Hello all!

I'm getting regular emails from Dakota Airparts. I haven't signed up for "news letters" but I have tried to get rid of them but no luck.

Anyone out there who knows a way to get Dakota Airparts to understand that I'm not interested?

(Seems like a legit business but still ...... ...... spamming is spamming.)

Thanks,
Christer

I try nice at first..

When nice doesn't work, shift into nasty mode.

Find out what their URL is, write to the webmaster at that URL, and let them know in no unclear terms that you do not wish to receive their ads.

Good luck,

Tulio

I have tried "patience" by letting them have several months to comply with my request for removal from their mailing list.

I will click that "unsubscribe link" once more to see what happens.

If I get one more email, I will write a nice email asking why nothing happens.

If they really are serious about their business, that should do it and no need to get nasty.

Problem is, Christer, that more than likely, the whole task is computer-controlled, and someone must have programmed an "ignore" removal requests in their set-up. And they may have also contracted-out the maintenance of their web-page to some shop in India or Pakistan.

By clicking back on their ads, you are just letting their computer know that you are actually reading their ads, so there is no need for them to do otherwise.

If there is a direct e-mail address for the company itself, write them a message asking to be removed.

Good luck,

Saludos,

Tulio

I have opened one email of several from Dakota Air Parts, only to click the unsubscribe link. I usually never do that since, as You point out, it only confirms that someone is receiving and reading. Yesterday, I did it again to give the company another chance to act according to my wish.

If they still don't, I'll send a polite email to sales@dakotaairparts.com

Are they a US based company? If so they are required to take you off the E-mail list, I'd have to check up on the details but I'm 90% sure that it is the law here in the States (for whatever that is worth :?: )

Visit their homepage at Dakota Air Parts

I have not (yet) tried to unsubscribe from there.

I received another one today, after which I tried to subscribe from their homepage.

This was the last friendly action. If it doesn't work, I'll get nastier.

Christer:

I just thought of another way to stop the spam:

Go to your web-provider's web-site, and see if he has spam filtering software; you enter there, the e-mail address and the domain for Dakota, and any messages that you receive in the future, will not make it to your inbox.

Since those messages are then stored in the provider's server, they are not sent to you, and the server's files are automatically cleaned on a regular basis and you don't have to worry about Dakota anymore.

Saludos,

Tulio

Tulio,
I have thought of that too. I pay quite a lot for my 10 Mb/s broadband connection but the ISP wants extra compensation for anti virus and spam filtering.

DAP is only a drop in my spam ocean but I thought that a (seemingly) legitimate company would respect an unsubscription. Then, why would they, since I never subscribed in the first place!

I use MailWasher to filter the spam but I always check the load before dumping it. DAP is actually the only (seemingly) legitimate company that I have identified (difficult with my interest ...... :? ...... and that why it caught my eye).

I received another piece of spam from DAP. I sent an email to sales@dakotaairparts.com with the quoted contents:

Quote:
I have NOT subscribed to Your Hotlist and do not know how I got on the list in the first place. Maybe You are hijacking email addresses? I have a general interest in aviation but not in Your business, especially since I live in Sweden.

I have tried to unsubscribe several times, either using the option in the email received or using the option on Your homepage but You do not respect my wish to not receive the Hotlist from Dakota Air Parts, which is Your obligation according to the law.

You are SPAMMING my email address and I will return the honour by sending this email as a response until I have been removed from the list!

!!!!!! Please, act according to the law and remove my email address immediately from the Hotlist !!!!!!

The email was not black-and-white but more colorful. I thought that a nice tone would be a good start but if they do not comply with my wish, I will start using words like baseball bat and knee-cap in the same sentence.

It seems like I have become obcessed by this ...... :x ...... and made it my mission ...... ...... !

Christer:

I believe that it would be cheaper, and in the long run, less aggravating, if you purchased (or downloaded a freeware version) an anti-spam program. I am sure you could then write the offender company's e-mail address there, and be forever free of their messages.

They will not stop, because they have probably farmed out the spam offshore, and no amount of hate mail from you will make them desist. I could almost swear that no human ever reads your messages unless they contain an order, and their programs are set to detect something like that.

Saludos,

Tulio

Tulio,
I use the free version of MailWasher and it does a pretty good job. Some time ago, I received ~50 spam emails a day but since I started using MW, it has been reduced to 10-20 a day. I always skim the headers before deleting and when DAP appeared, it triggered my curiosity as to why. If I had considered it "real spam", I wouldn't open it.

However, I had a nice surprise in the form of a propmt response from DAP to my email:

Quote:
Hello Christer,

Thank you for your email, hope things are well in Sweden. Our appologies that the usubscribe system did not work.

I have removed your email address and you should no longer recieve our weekly hotlist.

Best regards,

Shawn

It was either a honest mistake, they were unaware that the "unscubscribe" didn't work or it was working according to plan and people who are enough aggravated to send an email get removed. Anyway, giving them the benefit of a doubt, I sent this response:

Quote:
Hello Shawn,
thanks for removing my email address!

To be honest, I didn't really consider the Hotlist to be spam. If I did, I wouldn't click any link in it. I wouldn't even open it but let MailWasher delete it off the server. I hope You get the unsubscription bug fixed. The Hotlist became spam when that didn't work.

Best regards,
Christer

Fingers crossed ...... ...... hoping that I have been removed. Time will tell.

Christer
