If you want to. I've also read about vets been spit at after returning from Vietnam. Did anyone saw something like that, for instance? is it fabricated, a myth, urban legend? There are alot of stuff we take for granted that ain't so. Trying to understand these is a hobby of mine (the whys and hows). By the way, I don't have an answer to the question myself.

I have several close friends in the FAC Assn. - pilots and support personnel - who I trust completely who did experience being spat upon when returning to the States. This usually occurred in airports, more often than not in CA, before boarding another plane to their ultimate destination. There are also others in the same group who did not experience the same treatment. What caused the difference - unknown....maybe just a timing issue. Was I there personally to witness this - No. But as I said it is a matter of trusting all concerned as I have never been lied to by any of the individuals.

Most definitely NOT a myth.

This whole "support the troops" mentality among people who oppose military conflict did not really exist prior to Desert Storm.

Just from what I have read of your posts on here Bill, I would not doubt that you were lined up waiting to spit on vets coming home from Vietnam. You probably do the same thing to returning vets now.

You're speaking of a post-WW II world right?

Thx for the input. Do you have more details (like who spat (male/female), context...)... ?

From what I was told, it was both male and female, sometimes war protest signs were carried and chants of "baby killer" and other of the common protest chants popular during the 60-70s accompanied the spitting. Also some of the men were shunned by former friends and family, teachers and business people when they finally got home. Some of men were told by commanding officers in the later years to change out of their uniforms as quickly as they could upon reaching the States before continuing on their trips in hopes of not having to endure the "protest."

It's a shame that the soldiers who defend our country couldn't proudly wear their uniform. <and that will be my only political comment of this thread as I see Bill has raised his head again to comment>
