Countdown

Mon Aug 29, 2005 10:16 pm

Countdown continues! I see there are new pictures of September Pops up on Warbird Aeropress.... and sounds like Rare Bear is in flight test after the wing mod... Howard's Fury has a newly installed 3350...

One thing I noticed is how different the spinner size is on the different Fury's. Below are links to pics.

Howard's

Steve's

Details, details... will be fun to see the differences in the Mustangs and Fury's in attendance.

16 days until Reno!

Howard and many of the other guys have these new larger spinners. They made of carbon fiber, and they also set you back about $15K. Think I'll wait and see how this air racing thing goes before I drop that much money in a spinner that makes you go 5 MPH faster.

The R-3350 runs very cool cylinder head temps, so having less air intake is not really a bad thing at all. However, the increased velocity of the air through the smaller opening (remember that Bernoulli fellow) does wreck havoc with the cylinder baffles. Ashley and I were on a quest last year to repair/replace some on Howard's airplane.

Wow... $15K for a spinner... and 5 mph more...

What price is speed?

Nah, not possible.

To chop the tail off, you've gotta be BEHIND them!!!

I'll never forget the look on Sam Richardson's face when he saw what Howard Pardue did to the tail of "Czech Ride"!!

Anybody going to be around on Friday (16th) for the day? We are going to be on the West Coast then and I was thinking about coming over for the day if our plans don't change.

See ya,

Reno

Our T-6G #44 has already had a incidence.
Monday Wayne was on the course when a cowling latch failed allowing the cowl to shake (shake being a very relative term!!) hitting the prop and trashing it. He's flying again with a new prop and a cowl borrowed from Warlock.
Ok-so there's another difference between T-6s and Harvardsie the cowling!
