i was a 1/4 mile from home tonight after work when i see a guy pull over & run is butt off toward a house, i glanced back & saw it was on fire!! i stopped & ran to help as there was nobody else around. he kicks in the door, naturally, we were greeted by smoke & flames only to discover it's a hoarders house like on tv!!! crapola & debri stacked / piled 3 to 4 feet high with little paths to get around!! we yelled & yelled to see if anybody was their & hopefully not down from smoke inhalation. the smoke was to much so we got out. i checked the garage, junk stacked to the ceiling, so naturally nobody their either. screened in porch the same. 1/4 of the back side of the sh1t hole was in flames when emergency crews arrived & i apprised them of the situation. i then went home smelling like a campfire. do i get a merit badge?? or a stupid move badge?? :?

I'll go with a "merit badge" Tom ... and well done if I might add.

did the same thing almost 50 years ago at a Texas coast house and was rewarded with a night in jail as an arson suspect!

Meritt badge.....

But everyone please remember one thing. When you kick open the door you can cause a back draft in certain conditions. Also, if you don;t get a rare back draft and when you yell in and no one answers, and it is too dangerous to enter.....please close the door as you have just introduced more fuel to the fire.

I have seen instances where someone, the unlucky person in the burning home, was very close to the door (or window) that someone opened (read kicked in or broken) and it was too smoky to see them laying there. The would be rescuer then backs away and leaves the door open and the flames now race towards the oxygen coming in the open door and the once barely alive person in the home now becomes a crispy critter.

We can sometimes save the people who have been overcome from smoke, we can never save the crispy critter.

i haven't seen anything in the paper, don't know if there were injuries / casualties. this is a town of roughly 1000 people, thus news would travel fast if so. the main local newspaper is a rag like the national enquirer. wixers local oscar duece & woodyfield can attest to what i'm talking about re: "THE LORAIN JOURNAL" or it's nicknames " the groinal" or the "urinal". a cop gave me a long stare as i went to my car, so i can relate to what happened to you, even though i didn't get mistakenly popped. i hope you sued the caca doody out of that cop & city!!! :axe:
