This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

For a country which is famous for Hobbits we do seem to get some interesting aircraft coming our way. Check out this thread!

I would guess it will be restored back to flyable condition and then displayed but not flown...? Like some of the other rare FHC aircraft?

Interesting - the history page on this Mosquito says it was used for ground sequences and cockpit shots for the movie. I'll watch it again - I thought all the planes they used were bombers with fake gun ports painted over the nose perspex.

The race is on to an airworthy Mosquito!

I have full belief that it will be restored to flying condition
and flown - it hasn't been in the museum's interests to fund static restorations, with perhaps the exception being their Komet (for obvious reasons). Aircraft like the FHC's Oscar and Dora were purchased having already been restored prior to purchase, and not flown, and now remaining that way in the museum's care. However, rare aircraft like their Fw-190A-5, Zero, Fw-189, and Me-262 have been/are being restored to fly under the direction of the FHC. Although the FHC Hellcat has sat static for years, there has been evidence of work being done to bring it up to flying status as well. As the museum will state, they are a
Flying Heritage Collection. With other Mosquito restorations that will be flying in the coming months/years, there is even more reason to believe that it will be flown.

I wanna see the komet fly under power.I think the biggest roadblock would be finding somone to fly it.Could you imagine being shot at while sitting between tanks of nasty stuff that will dissolve yer body and light you on fire

and yet someone would likely jump at the chance.

EADS/Messershmitt has a flying glider Me-163 painted BRIGHT RED that they tow aloft and release @ air shows in Europe. Capt. Eric 'Winky' Brown said on an episode of WINGS years ago that he'd flown 4 tailless aircraft in his career and three of them were marginal and potential killers (ask Geoffrey De Havilland) but the 163 was a delight to fly and had no vices.
You should be able to find the 163 glider videos on line

I somewhere have a book on the ME163 and it was claimed that it could do 400 mph just gliding.izzat possible?

Recall it was only 10 years ago that XCOR was offering to build safer-fueled replicas for about $500K a pop. I was really hoping the idea would catch on.

Certainly not beyond the realm of possibility. Just use modern day technology and fuels.
