And I live in the pattern for N.A.S. Ault on Whidbey EA-6 big noisy, EF-18 Growler, not so much quieter, just more 'edgy' and raspy.

Try a Thud with it's single stage AB.... Now that will really p.o. the neighbors! Not that I'm really concerned about those that move off the end of the runway and start whining about the noise...

Two J-52 P-408s in an EA-6 would be LOUD ! Lots of thrust with slow airspeed means the sound generator, ( aircraft ) is staying in the area longer, the sound just piles up !

Nothing like standing just in back of an EA-6B getting up to power on the cat! An experience that I remember vividly to this day when I first got to experience it. If you did not have double hearing protection it was excruciating, with it it was just painful.

I often miss the deck... not the Navy

Inspector...that is exactly what happened to me! After spending some quality time at Minot (LOVED the 106s!!!) I was shipped off to Jolly Ole Fairbanks  Went TDY to Anchorage just as they were transitioning to the F-16s. Elmendorf was heavenly after spending almost a year at Eilson! At my current place of employment here in central Virginia, I work with a fella who was a helicopter mechanic at Wainright the same time I was stationed at Eilson! Small world.

I was stationed at Kincheloe AFB, Michigan for a year and a half in the early '60s. The only truly happy times, in terms of duty there, were while I was temporarily with the 507th Fighter Wing before the 37th ADMS got our IM-99Bs at Raco.
The F-106s were my introduction to Century Series fighters. I loved 'em. While refueling them during practice for "quick turn-arounds" timed with stopwatches, we probably violated almost every safety rule imaginable as guys from the different specialities were involved in the addition of Genies, Falcons, LOX, and JP-4 almost simutaneously!! But I was still a teen-ager , and loved the excitement and the pressure that accompanied those quick turn-arounds!

Dang...that video along with a couple of the others on YouTube of the 106 are almost pornographic! My God but she was a sexy beast! Remembering the first time I saw one sitting on the ramp at Minot in all her "Go Fast Gray" glory...sun glinting off of her...and the temp outside was about -50 with the windchill!

Sorry for blabbering on and on...the good old days...
