We over came and it is in place.

The old seals around the opening and exit of the radiator interface really was poor. Probably only sealed 50-70%
of the areas. That is a lot of hot air. Each corner had an opening.

I installed new seals.

Hopefully it'll be an improvement.
Next will be clamps, some safety wire, coolant and engine runs.

Well done, it does looks like a hand full...

I find that when installing a radiator in a P51, it doesn't seem so bad if you just keep repeating "at least I'm not cowling up a Spitfire"

Surely you mean "at least I'm not cowling up a P-47"!

Thanks, it's been a long time since I did that & I'd just about forgotten how that went :(

Cowling nightmares include-
Pond Racer- dodging coolant pop off outlets while removing upper cowls that were held in place by many AN525 screws while Weed Wacker Air Blowers are running and hooked up to the lower cowls.
Super Corsair modified A-26 cowls if things aren't indexed properly.
Changing all the Dzuz's on a P-38.

I'm sorry but P-51 Radiator changing is in a category all by itself.

I got the liquid loaded toady and had to dodge some rain showers to get a couple ground runs accomplished.

Just had the hangar camera today.

Jim speaking of bread crumbs, do you use Foreflight and if so what do you think of it??

I haven't used it but it looks good. I've got the pilot mycast app for my iphone but use a Garmin 496 with the spitfire; it's VFR only so I only need to find TFRs and weather.

You can't go arong with Garmin. I'm learning the ways of Foreflight but back it up with a 696 in my C-140A, but haven't tried it in the Challenger yet...

Thanks for your reply....

After some ground runs spread out due to rain I felt the Radiator wasn't leaking so I moved onto the 25 hr engine service.
Primary part is the oil change and screen/cuno filter inspection.
The engine was hot so oil was drained from several locations.
This is the Cuno Filter location on the right side of the motor.

Filter element removed from the upper housing.

Lower housing bolted to the side of the motor.

Filter element. This is a stack of dual sided fine mesh discs stacked on a tube that allows oil to flow through.
The Cuno filters oil under pressure as it comes out of the engine oil pump before entering the oil pressure regulator and oil galleys throughout the engine.
Image
Being a dry sump oil system the oil is sucked out of the engine and sent through the oil cooler, back to the oil tank and then returns to the engine.
The oil flows through a couple of rough screens as it is scavenged out of the case. They reside in the bottom of the oil pan. 1 is shown removed in the photo.
Image
The rock screen and retainer/cover as fitted to the lower oil pan. The rock screen name comes from the coarse nature of the filter screen and what type of debris it will stop.
Image
Rock Screen and retainer separated.
Image
Cuno reinstalled.

All aircraft are together and flyable.

Outstanding detail and work. On the Cuno filter, do you flush it out and twist the nut a few times as I remember something like that on the R-2600 filter on the Rose?
We had a few extra around and sent the dirty ones out to be cleaned.

I guess the world can end now without a bunch of parts scattered around the hangar...
