A friend of mine said it was one of Omega's, a military contractor privately owned, 707. They have 2 - 707's, 1 - DC-10. Just wonder if anyone can confirm.

I've seen several sources saying it's one of Omega's and the video I saw is consistent with their paint scheme. Sad to see them loose one of their birds as when I saw one of them a couple years ago, the plane was immaculate and they've prided themselves on their excellent maintenance and sortie availability rates.

Base Spokesman Tells KVTA News Plane Never Got Off Ground While Trying To Takeoff From Naval Base

An aircraft operated by a private company contracted by the Navy to provide support services crashed while trying to take off from Naval Base Ventura County at Point Mugu at 5:25 PM Wednesday afternoon. Base Spokesman Vance Vasquez told KVTA News that the full sized converted 4 engine 707 jet, loaded with 158,000 pounds of fuel, was rolling down the main runway at the base, runway 21, when it veered to the left, careened through an infield, a taxiway, and wetlands, finally coming to rest just shy of the beach. Vasquez said the plane never got off the ground. It burst into flames. Vasquez says the Omega Aerial Refueling aircraft provides airborne refueling for Navy aircraft. He says the 3 civilian crew members escaped with minor injuries. The plane, designated a B707, burned well into the night. Fire crews, including water drops from the Ventura County Sheriff's helicopter, doused the area around the plane but it did little to stop the fire. The burned out hulk of the fuselage still sits in the wetlands as plumes of black smoke rose into the late afternoon and evening sky, drifting toward PCH and the farmlands to the north or east of the base. Vasquez tells KVTA News that the crash will be investigated by the NTSB because it is a civilian aircraft with a civilian crew.

Thank goodness it appears that all have survived and without major injuries.

"Full sized"? What, as against the scale model 707s which are so often seen at Mugu?

Built in 1969 for PAN AM as a 707-321B msn 20029, N892 PA- Glad everyone got away without serious injuries
