Exactly right-Navy has changed their policy and are bringing them up after a decade of no action. They need support for what they have done, not a whine about it being static or not. A simple search would tell all that is needed to know about this aircraft which was discussed and marvelled at in some big threads - would have though a 'Corsair guy' would know everything about this bird already, since it is one of a kind and high profile.

Static display has a worth of it's own. The craft may be maintained in the oryginal condition without any changes like new avionics required for modern flying. She can not be wrecked by mulfunction or pilots mistake. Usually she is more accessible for average people. It is always a pleasure to see a warbird in the air, but I surely wouldn't call static display evil.

i was simply saying that i would love all aircraft to fly and be in their original state. I know money,time and red tape is a hugh undertaking in any project and i thank anybody who had a helping hand in saving our history. There's no need to take a shot at a " Corsair guy" for not knowing eveything. That's why we have wix, to help educate everybody on some level. I didn't fully know the story about this corsair. So instead of your New Zealand sarcasm, please help people including myself understand the basics of this aircraft.

It's' just what he does, John. Unfortunately, he suffers from a rare form of Internet Tourettes which physically prevents him from having reasonable online conversations.

As to the Birdcage, I'm incredibly impressed with how quickly they're moving on this... I didn't expect them to jump on it so quickly, but I'm awfully thankful that they have! I'm curious as to why they used black paint on the canopy frame, though.

And one of the great things to remember when viewing this aircraft, is that its recovery is greatly owed to the financial backing of one of the great warbird owners and pilots, Chuck Greenhill (P-51 Geraldine, P-51 LouIV, Pearl Harbor J2F-4 Duck)!

It is awesome seeing the progress thus far! I'd assume, that like other Corsair canopies I have seen, the inner framing was originally painted black, so the restoration crew painted the assembly black, and the exterior elelments of the framing will be painted later, perhaps when the finished aircraft is painted, something not uncommon among other restorations I have seen.
