FG-1D Folks:
Circa 1957, the FG-1D below FAS 201 possibly Buno 67XXX had a landing accident at El Paso, Texas during the ferry flight to El Salvador. The pilot was a Lt. Sanchez.
Does anyone from the big state of Texas or El Paso area remembers seeing this bird parked outside at the airport?
Does anyone remember seeing crews working on this aircraft?? One story says that it was fixed later on for the ferry flight S.of the border and the other version was that it was replaced by another FG-1D.
Will appreciate if someone has some more details of this particular FG-1D FAS 201. The scheme was gull grey with black letters/numbers on the sides. The canopy had a possible yellow trim.

Those are holes due to minor damage done during a ground loop to the R/wingtip and R/elevator & horizontal stab. The rest was prob done by the Texas sun!

Reminds me of Blythe, CA when I was a little kid. Bob Bean had a collection of Corsairs out there with various Central and South American paint jobs on them.

There was an overall Gloss Sea Blue one (-7 ?) with a white band on the cowling covered in red polka dots and a huge P&W decal there (Mojave) it was close to a very oddly pale green Hunter when I stopped by there in mid 1978.

wasn't the f4u-7's made for the french? The poka dots on the engine cowling was used by a US squadron during Korea i think. I'd have to read up on it but I know those dots are one of our squadrons.

Was that a Hunter or a Saab Lansen?

It was a Hunter single seat and it was a pale glossy pistaschio green in color. The day I was there (moving back to Seattle from New Orleans) the big guys from Rockwell were down @ Rutans place for some sort of dog and pony and four guys were finishing up sanding/shaping before paint on the first 'Quickie'.

Love that early star & bar on the -4.

New England Air Museum is blessed to have that example in their collection. I consider it one of the top five Corsair treasures out there in regard to sheer uniqueness.

Say... isn't this one of the original F4U-4 Prototypes? It was from either an F4U-1A or F4U-1D airframe. I remember seeing a black and white photo of this plane in flight and the caption mentioned the bottom was yellow.
I think it was in the Detail & Scale F4U-4 Vol. 56 book.
