NMF P-39s In Combat

The 12th had some odd scheme P-39's including one with a wavy neutral gray demarcation line just below the cockpit window.

Although I find it hard to tell, it looks more like a P-39D
with the long barrel 20mm cannon in the nose.
I also cannot see any gas vents on the nose,
which started with the P-39L.

P-39D-1 or P-400. Too fuzzy to count the exhaust stacks, but if there's six it's a D-1. If there's twelve it's a 400.

Baugher lists 41-38481 as a P-39D-2-BE.

It pains me to admit this but I can't tell one darn P-39 from another
I just threw 'N' out to see if there were any anoraks out there who knew

F models did indeed have 12 stacks, but they had the 37mm gun which had the shorter muzzle. The gun in the pictured a/c is
a 20mm.
