Pictures from the 2011 Hondo Fly-in

Sat May 21, 2011 11:41 pm

The Hondo Fly-in got off to a late start due to weather, but there was a great turnout. A number of WIXers were present, though I won't post anyone's picture, unless they agree to it.

I flew out with another Alamo Liaison Squadron member in his aircraft. I took the L-5 after a minor mechanical issue kept me from taking the L-2, which is a little easier on the wallet for gas...

Gene's L-4 on the way over.

Some ramp shots as I arrived follow:

And of course, I should show my trusty 'ole ride - the L-5, and next to it, the Tiger Moth from Boerne that I've had the pleasure of flying once. There's a real possibility that the L-5 was the only combat vet present. Ok, so I said that just to stir things up a bit. We don't know the exact history, but it (or parts of it and the dataplate ) was purchased for civilian useage on Guam after the war, and we know for sure that some of the sister ships were with a Liaison Squadron in the Philipines.

More to follow.

The Mustang is a combat Vet. I wouldn't even mind having the 4 wheel Mustang next to it. Brand new Shelby!!

Ober, who owns the Tiger Moth that Ryan says is from Bobsville??

Ok, so it's cool that the Mustang is a combat vet.

Here's another shot of the Tiger Moth.

I've flown this Stearman once, too... it's from Castroville.

Devil Dog finally showed up from Georgetown, too!

Some more WIXers were there and sitting in the shade of this aircraft...

Conrad made a lovely pass in the T-28.

All the new arrivals really helped the ramp.

Lynn the Tiger belongs to a friend of Adair and lives in his Hangar. No I didn't help Cuz with the tramp stamp DZ cause you know where I would tell SB to put it! You missed out Lynn cause I had the keys to both the Mustangs HJGB and the Shelby.

I don't think I got a shot of Ober... except a tiny one here that is probably also my best shot of the other "Mustang" (I'm really not that interested in cars):

The orange shirts WERE bright... Here are two shots illustrating the fact.
