This one sort of falls into a hole in Baughers listings, it isn't shown as ever being built, there is a hole between 4254730 and 4254739 but it's smack in the middle of a block of A-24B-15-DT's, unless it was bailed over from the Navy but the buaerno should be listed somewhere if that's the case, and it would have gone away and replaced as shown by the USAAF s/n.

You GOT me on that one, Jack. I opened it up expecting to see photos of the McDonnell F2H Banshee.

Inspector- I don't see how it wasn't built...the serials that Bauger calls out individually, from my understanding, are just the ones that he has additional/specific information about. The fact that he doesn't have any additional info on this one doesn't mean that it wasn't built. I will have to look at the Douglas stuff we have at the museum to see if I can find this one. Does anyone know if it was actually delivered in NMF? All of the photos I have of DT-built A-24Bs show them in OD.

I have a earlier color photo of it and it was OD with a white tail
with the name "Nuts to Nips". It was formly assigned to the 531st BS
21st FG 7th AF.
The fact that it's not listed on the Bauger site only means he has no info on it.

Yeah, I sort of mis spoke. A few months ago I gave Joe info on a Boeing built B-17F-BO 4229722 named BESSIE which was 'in the hole' on his listings. BESSIE was a CONUS technology demonstrator used to fly to training bases, she's listed there now.
And TULSABOY thanks for reading more into my posting than was stated. I was speculating as to whether or not the original operator might have been the Navy, but that the airplane had been loaned/bailed/stolen into the Army in New Guinea and maybe given a bogus s/n to keep some nosey Lt. Colonel from asking too many questions since the number style and color appear to be different between the fin and the rudder.

I was also expecting to see something about the McDonnell Banshee on this post.My Dad was in the Navy based at Camp Pendelton in San Diego,ca. in the mid 1950's.He said the Banshee got its name from the noise made by the engine.He said they flew in and out from the base and really howled.anyone here ever hear one fly?Was my dear departed daddy yanking my chain?
