I say that since both the ex-Champlin bird and now #57 have made Arizona home at some point that it's only fair that #74 should have to come live here too! :)

Here's Race 74 at Stratford in color and B&W on Oct. 16, 1947.

Frank;
It is the small hangar on the north side of the Windsock Rest., not the old Curtiss Flying School hangar behind the Windsock. Vought had two wooden blast fences on the ramp running perpendicular to the main large hangars.

thanks Jerry! I'm still a little confused though. So it's on the other side of main street across from the windsock? Sort of where the musuem is, in that general area? If i'm way off i'm sorry, that place is hugh!

No. It's on the airport side, right next to the Atlantic FBO Gate and Hangars.
These small hangars went up in about 1929-30.
You can see the small hanger in the lower right of the photo below and the blast fences extending out from the hangars.

BTW;
That is the V-173 between the big hangars. This was taken at an air display/open house in 1945.
Also, those Corsairs lined up are not factory fresh birds. They are a visiting US Navy Squadron and performed en-mass for the open house.

now that's some awesome history! Where's the operations building? I now notice and recognize everything in the photo. Is it documented somewhere when was the last time the airport had numerous corsairs in the air? I mean after chance-vought left.

Probably the 1948 version, Chris. Of course, if that were the case, the induction trunk should be a little skewed for easy repositioning.

GO BACK UNDER YOUR ROCK!!!! :lol:
