I got a blast from the past last weekend. I went with my son and grandson to a local comic book store, Bankston's in Waco, Tx. Brice wanted to go since it was National free comic book day in the business (get rid of the deadwood, I guess). I was looking around, pretty disappointed and then spotted the era of material I was interested in inside a locked display case. DC comics from the sixties with the 12c or 15 cent price tag. hmmm. up into double digit price tags. showing my age here..... I asked about military titles, especially 'Our Army at War', 'Fighting Forces' or 'GI Combat'. An employee took me to the back and pulled a box marked 'war comics' out of a stack in the corner. I found few of the ones I was interested in and found none of the one with the American Indian ace, Johnny Cloud. I did however find a couple of "Enemy Ace" with Rittmeister von Hammer, featured in "Star Spangled War Stories." I remember the first Issue of that one. I picked up issue no. 146, Aug. Sept. 1969 for fifteen clams.
