:-/

I'm sure it will be well taken care of wherever it goes, but there's a part of me that will always remember seeing it there tucked in that small hangar with the Spit and Hurricane, and helping push it out and hold it for a full-power engine run back in 2005. As seminal life events go, it doesn't quite compare with the birth of my daughter, but it's not TOO far removed... :)

I wonder how much of a role that a-hole neighbor with the tall pole played in this decision?

Search for Russell Group Flag Pole in the search feature. From a couple years ago or so.

Sad to see Mr. Russell is getting out of the warbird biz. :( Always enjoyed the fact that 3 unique fighters like the Spitfire, 109, and Hurricane were so close (relatively) to the Eastern Seaboard. This year's theme at Wings & Wheels was "British Invasion" and was essentially tailor made for all four aircraft the Russell Group operated, but sadly this was not to be. While I never had the chance to visit the Niagara home-base, I did have the opportunity to witness these aircraft perform at Thunder and Geneseo.

While I don't know who bought the 109, I wait eagerly to hear where such a historically rare aircraft is onto next. But I will put my guess in saying:

Fighter Hangar 1 / Texas Flying Legends Museum / Flying Freedom

There was a comment made in a conversation about a Spit or ME-109 being added to Texas Flying Legends. This was back when they were just getting started.

Would be a wise move on there part I think. The 109 would complement the Zero so much. Then all they would need is a Spit and they'd have there own Ace & Iron Eagles III squadron! Though I must admit I am still saddened to see another unique and rare aircraft leave this part of the country at least shes going to someone that will fly her.

Any one heard any news recently on what has become of the Russell BF109? Someone told me this summer that the Texas sale fell thru and she is back on the market again. I haven't seen any pics of her in a few yrs.

I'd have thought it is not really a practical aircraft for the TFL folks to operate. It is one thing to ferry a DC-3 engined new-build Zero and a selection of US fighters from one end of the country to another, quite a different matter with a DB-engined 109.

As far as I know, from working this summer with one of the pilots who used to fly the Hurricane there, the 109 has not flown recently, and is in the hangar awaiting a buyer. Same with the Hurricane and the Harvard. The Spit, as you know, is sold and in England.
