And who could forget the trench run in STAR WARS. classic... :)

Which actually is more on topic than you might realize. George Lucas used WWII guncamera footage for the shoots of Tie Fighters and X-Wings, in some cases almost shot for shot. He also used other footage as the basis for the Tie Fighters attacking the Millenium Falcon (this footage being shot from B-17's and B-24s of attacking German fighters) It's interesting seeing the footage side by side with the finished movie.

Oh i just remembered a scene but its kind of off topic.
The part in Airplane at the beginning where the guy is waving the 747 into the gate then he points off in the opposite dirrection and then they show the plane going through a huge glass wall in the terminal. Thats my all time fav. :D

Well, most of mine have been covered in the preceeding conversations.
I do have a few that I like:

"Piece of Cake", during one scene as the Spitfires take-off, "Uncle" describes each pilot's take-off style and how it reflects on their individual personalities and behaviors. Great writing and visuals coming together quite well.

"The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper", during the cropduster Stearman vs car duel at the climax. Amazing stuff! I can't believe the car never got nicked by the prop as it stuffs one of the mains through the car's roof!

"Catch 22", Milo and Col. Cathcart discuss "business" totally oblivious as a smoking B-25 returns to base and crashes.

"Catch 22" (again) as McWatt flies the L-5 a bit too agressivly and cuts Hungrey Joe in half. Great stunt and I wish I knew how they did that without damaging the prop. (any insight, Stoney?)

"Patton", you just gotta love George C. Scott facing down two Heinkels with his pistol!

"Wings of Eagles', Speig Wead takes the JN4 floatplane on his first solo with an Army Lt. and flys through a hangar and crashes in a pool!

"Best Years of Our Lives", not exactly a flying scene, but the very moving end sequence of the aircraft scrap yard.

Enough for now! I'll have to think of a few more later!
Jerry

I remember reading in the early 70s (in Air Progress?) that the L-5 had a metal prop installed, and the fellow on the raft was replaced with a lightweight dummy packed with watermelon (and holding a balsa-wood camera!). The pilot nailed the dummy OK, but one of its hands flew off and jammed into the elevator, making for a rather difficult landing... The close-up of the bottom half of the guy falling into the water was done by a stuntman hiding his upper half behind a flexible Mylar mirror and some traveling matte work.

This kind of stuff I can remember, but don't ask me where I left the TV remote.

How about the movie Task Force with Gary Cooper. The movie chronicles carrier aviation from the Langley thru Korea. They show the Saratoga transiting the Panama Canal with all the prewar planes on deck.

How about Test Pilot with Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy, and Claudette Colbert. Clark Gable lands a P-35 in a field during an air race . He and Spencer Tracy test an early YB-17.

Toward the Unknown, with William Holden, hokey plot but many experimental jets and some great flying! Holden flys behind the General's aircraft that has a deployed drag chute that won't release and collapses it on the front of his T-33's tip tank. They land in formation that way !

Last one is a real dog but has great color F104 footage. Starfighter, you probably have to listen to most of it with the volume down but the shiny F104s are great !
