I agree Wayne's war films were good,however when the one lunged old fatman was leading a team of Green Berets in Vietnam,I think he jumped the shark. A bit of a stretch

yeah, green barets was a stretch. But he was much older so it's not his fault. Everybody gets old.

Yes we all get old or die young.it was John's attempt to justify our war in Vietnam,where we really didnt belong.sorry but true. I have many Vietnam war vet friends and I admire them all and thank them for their sacrifices.However,we didnt belong.Didya see they just declassified the "Pentagon papers?" Read them and see the true story of why we were there

My opinion:

US Armed Forces won their part in the Vietnam War. It was the ARVN who lost it after 1973.

Agreed..I was reluctant to post about Wayne, because I feared it might turn the thread political. As for his age, one of the few historical criticisms I've heard about "Saving Private Ryan" was that Tom Hanks was at least ten years too old to be a WWII Army Ranger, even an officer.
