Warbird Information Exchange

I recall an article in one of the aviation periodicals from 1982 that was about a newly restored Westland Lysander. One of the test pilots was "Fish" Salmon. The magazine may have been "Air Progress" but I am unsure. Is anyone familiar with this article and/or the disposition of this aircraft? Surely such a treasure is in a museum some plance but I haven't seen this plane in my searching through the various museum's websites. Thanks for your help.

As for you info request... I need more to go on. A location of the aiframe would be a good start. Perhaps even a serial number or registration?

My guess would be the Sabena Old Timers V9546 as it first flew after restoration in 1982. The plane had an accident in 2001 and is again under restoration, along with a second Lizzie, by the Sabena Old Timers. I'm not sure if V9546 will fly again or not.

Fish Salmon died in 1980. My guess would be the Dwight Brooks Lysander that was in Dayton and now Dulles?

There was an article in Air Classics about the rebuild with a shot of the Lizzie on the cover...I have the article and will look it up.

The Lysander in question is ex-RCAF 2346. It was restored by Dwight Brooks of Van Nuys, CA and made its first flight on 3 July 1974 as N7791. It was donated to the National Air and Space Museum during 1977 and displayed at the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. It had camouflage upper surfaces, black fuselage sides and underbelly and wore "AC B" fuselage codes. It was loaned to the Portuguese Air Force Museum in 2003.

Those are not the same Lysanders.

The ex Dwight Brooks machine was RCAF 2346 US reg N7791. Now with NASM.

The one in Portugal is RCAF 2375 ex BCATP museum in Brandon Manitoba with the RCAF code of 7791 on the side.

This is often reported wrong.

Doug is correct, except the airplane marked as 7791 is now under restoration or in storage with Musée de l'Air in France.
