sad news.... roy shoffner owner of p-38 glacier girl, & a part of the major spirit of the recovery effort in both financing & enthusiasm in restoring her has passed away as of saturday september 24th. he gave us all a world treasure. he will be sorely missed in our circle. i wish his family all the best, & i thank him for his extraordinary contribution to the warbird movement as a driving force, as well as being a wonderful gentleman. best regards, tom friedman

I really don't know what to say. I'm in shock a little. Mr. Roy Shoffner was always very pleasant to talk to and always had a smile on his face. I admired his success in life and all of his achievements including Glacier Girl. I myself and my family will miss him.

i wonder what the disposition of the glacier girl will be??? i know that bob cardin who supervised the restoration is currently the museum curator, & i'd assume he would retain that position, but i guess nobody will know anything until mr shoffner's estate is processed & organized.

Saturday at the Nashua show someone had said that he was not well. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing, he did a great job getting GG out of the ice and back into the air.

My thoughts are with his friends and family.

From Mr. Shoffner's obituary in the Knoxville News Sentinel:

Memorial suggested to: J. Roy Shoffner Memorial Aviation Education Fund c/o The Aviation Museum of Kentucky, Inc., PO Box 4118, Lexington, KY 40544.

The pictures that I took the day that Glacier Girl first flew again are nothing special, but they are here:

I'm not one for words on such occasions; I usually prefer to do my talking with images...
