My hat trick appearance at Legends and it did not disappoint. What an incredible collection of aircraft this year and the flying was the best I’ve seen. The sights and sounds overwhelm the senses at times.

Enough reminiscing.... straight to the pics eh?

Great pics. I wish I would have been there as well.....
Especially like the first pic, Flight line north...., and the 3 Buchons, and the Corsairs, and the shiny Twin...., well, as I said, great pics!
Thanks for posting.

For the in air shots, where did you stand? Some say the Tank Bank is best and some say the M11. Do they offer chalets to shoot from?? Which is the best???

I was in the Friends of Duxford seating area. I got my best stuff standing in the back area. Unless you’re in the front row, my seated panning shots often included somebody’s hat or head. The tank bank is great from what I heard... I also heard from a couple of locals they were cracking down on all the “freeloaders” on adjacent roads. Honestly, since the aircraft bank along the curve of the crowd, you can get some decent shots anywhere. Perhaps some others I have admired on WIX can pipe up on their thoughts... Rob Leigh aka Robbo is certainly one that comes to mind... Check out his 2010 pics here

Ollie is another... Check out his 2010 pics here

And of course our local Duxford and Mary Alice expert Peter “G”... Check out his 2011 pics here and here also

I'd love to see what Al aka Spookythecat could do at Legends :D

Mark

Thanks! :D The program said seven, but I only recall six. Fragile But Agile, February, Ferocious Frankie, Big Beautiful Doll, Nooky Booky IV and Miss Velma.
Checking on MustangsMustangs, TF-51D-25 44-73149 Dream Girl from Max Alpha Aviation did not show.
Edit: Oh, just realized that's Mier Motors, they brought her last year.

Hmmm "top places" ......

All crowdside locations on the airfield are shooting into the sun until late afternoon which is never ideal

Personally I prefer the M11 end but slighty further back from the tightly packed area around the press enclosure.
But that's because I'm looking for a topside pass opportunity and landing shots on the grass runway.

The "Tank Bank" offers almost head on shots of the grass runway takeoffs ~ but it gets packed with people all trying for the same shot.

Both these locations need big lenses to get close enough to the subject. I use a 100-400mm lens which gives me the equivalent of 680mm thanks to the digital camera body.

If I was just using a smaller point and shoot camera ~ I'd go for either the Friends of Duxford or Friends of the Fighter Collection marquees ~ which both can offer good vantage points as aircraft taxi past.

I hope this helps !
