This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Please forgive me, good Tulio!
My comments were all in jest. Your teachings are founded on sound doctrine. The Mustang truly is the fairest of them all...
...perched on a pylon, that is!
Now, if you're actually thinking of going FLYING...
(Now, no more hijackngs--I promise)

Plus the engine isn't even finished, and there's no telling how much that will cost to have fixed either. I can't see it being worth more than $700k in its present condition, and that's being generous.... there's probably at least $.5M left to do by the looks of the wing, engine, and all the internals which may, or may not have been finished. Like all warbirds though, the advertised price is rarely what the closing price is, so I guess it's priced high to get the $7-800k it'll probably go for.

PS. Like the idea of a WIX mustang consortium.... there are about a 1000 of us, so if we all just chipped in $1000 she'd be ours!
I was thinking it was pricey as well compared to the last two P-51's sold through Courtesy Aircraft. Are they pricing this higher because of the dual controls?

Before I'll pitch in, it's got to be one that's flyable NOW. At 70 years old, I don't have time to wait for a "project".
With the death of Roy Shoffner, I wonder if Glacier Girl will be up for sale anytime soon. Now THAT'S something I'd REALLY invest $$$ in.
Mudge the financially destitute

Just my luck though, someone else would get to crash it before I could...
Maybe I could print up some stock to sell on eBay... Thinking (picture smoke out the ears)... Anyone with 100 or more shares could fly it, anyone with more than 10 shares could fly in it! The rest just get the stock certificate to hang on the wall. Of course I'd get to fly it for my efforts in putting it all together.

The question is...who would insure such a scheme?

Killjoy!

Next thing you'll tell us that we need to change the oil periodically as well....

Why would insurance be a major hurdle, outside of paying the premiums?
As long as the Pilot(s)-in-command are qualified on the TF-51, why would
the insurance company care? The WIX TF-51 Museum would just be
a corporation or consortium of people who pooled their funds to start
a museum. Some of the members are qualified to maintain the aircraft.
I would be satisfied with taking my dividends in the form of rides.

Dan: As soon as you possibly can, please head to the Vatican, and ask to speak with the Pope, tell him that I sent you...
You will be tortured by Irish and Italian nuns, the ones that have
a more than evident moustache . . . yikes! : )

Forget it, Soto. I heard the Pope's a round-motor fan, so the inquisition threat won't work this time!
As for the nuns: I always thought the facial hair was just the Monty Python bunch being funny! Are real nuns really hairy? Fascinating!

Hmmm.... Pope prefers the 190A over the 190D then, and how does Tulio know so much about hairy nuns?

When you compare the $1.2M for this project with the $1.9M for the ex Doug Arnold TF51 which Sherman are selling the price looks OK, that said both have been for sale for a while now.
But what of the history of this project, surely questionable seeing as it crashed and killed the pilot.
