Newark F-4 Resto - Three colors on, one to go but a question

We have the grey underside, brown and medium green applied and will start on the dark green next week.

The quality of the auto laquer paint is fantastic; it dries as hard as teflon. I think this bird will have a nice finish for years to come.

Quick questions for F-4 experts out there....the medium green color per the FS specs we applied per the USAF colors is looking to be a bit more lime green than medium green:

+ Is this still an accurate color as it came from the factory?

+ Does anyone know where we can find the exact formulation for FS medium green as we might re-apply that color.

BTW on an amusing note we have a few paint drips but from what I can tell in the F-4 photo books the enlisted men that did the camo paint jobs left quite a bit more drips than we did! :lol:

I used to paint RF-4C aircraft while in the USAF, as a Corrosion Control Spec, and I remember the FS # as 34102.
I have a color chip for all the FS colors and it is NOT a lime green, at least by my eye.

As far as the enlisted guys remark, we were shooting Deft brand lacquer and you needed to be a piss poor painter to run it or leave a sag.
As a member of the 12th AF HQ we took alot of pride in our birds, so a negative comment like yours doesn't go very far with me.

Just a thought, but how well did you shake the green paint up before thinning and spraying?
I know the tan paint would come out pink if not shaken well enough.

As a reference this shows the same medium green we applied last Saturday...too light!

So we are going back to get more paint and apply a darker medium green this weekend...

Yes, that light green is not EVEN close.

Take your 34102 chip out of your FS 595 and have the chip computer scanned @ the paint store then you'll get the formulation on the label for the next group who may repaint your repaint-

Rick, thanks very much for your help in sharing painting techniques from the Collings Foundation F-4. It gave me a wealth of info that will help us get the Newark OH F-4 as accurate as possible.

Ours won't be able to fly but it will in spirit after having a new paint job....
