Warbird Information Exchange

I was attending the North Cascades Vintage Fly-In in Concrete Wa, yesterday, and all in attendance were treated to a few impressive flybys from John Sessions and Carter Teeters in Historic Flight's P-51B and Spitfire Mk.IX. I can only image the fun those two pilots had while flying through the river valleys of the Cascade Mountains to get to Concrete from Arlington, where they had done a few flybys just before heading north.

The mountains provide a great background for photos!

It's a nice show, very relaxed. No one running around yelling and screaming conflicting directions. I was there but left before John and Carter made their passes due to domestic stuff to do (still can't get the cat to do the vacuuming darn it!).
They do a really nice job up there and the museum is just a jewel, if you get into the Everett area, it's worth the short drive up Hwy 20 to visit them

Inspector, you're right about the museum. It is a jewel in the North Cascades. I first heard about the fly in last year, attended it, and was impressed. I was looking forward to this years, and now I am looking forward to next year!

Did you see the most recent edition of AOPA Pilot magazine with the Waco flying over the Grand Canyon? Talk about no place for an engine failure! No flat ground within gliding distance and an impossible distance to cross if you survive the crash and try to walk out....

Anyway, those were some absolutely beautiful shots, especially in regard to the light. First time through, I was scrolling too fast and it looked like the T-34 was taking off over the PT-19!

Actually, the photos are a bit deceiving, the ground West of the field is pretty level going down the Skagit River valley to the Sound. The hill behind the SPIT and UPPUPA is a bit South of the field and across the Skagit River, the telephoto lens foreshortens the effect. As you go East towards Marblemount and Washington Pass the Cascade mountains do get seriously steeper, rescue teams come from all over the world to practice high angle rescues in some of the steepest terrain in the world near Diablo, WA.
