After waiting out some rain/wind/storm action tonight I got to get a little night shooting practice in. Hopefully they'll get better as the week progresses.

If you look very carefully at the prop on that nearest Texan you can see it has a bullet hole in it.

Excellent photos, Al! I'm very excited to get out there!

What's the story behind the bullet hole in the prop of the Texan?

Besides those talked about recently, I am also looking forward to seeing Ron Fagen's "Twilight Tear" - I wish I could be making it early enough to watch the artwork of the name being applied, but I won't be able to get out there until the end of the week. It should be another of those definite Grand Champion "contenders"!

if the interrupter gear for the nose mounted machine skipped, it would cause the gun to fire when there was a prop blade in front of the muzzle. If the resulting hole was in such a place it would not affect the performance of the prop, a matching hole was drilled into the other blade for balance.

And how loud of a whistling noise does the prop make? When I was in A&P school, our F4F-4 had a shortened prop as some student previously had drilled holes in the end of one blade for balance, and running it up over about 900 RPM gave off a shreeking whistle like noise that made neighborhood dogs queezy. 'ya didn't have to call the tower, we heard ya comin' for the last 30 minutes'

Nice shots, Al and company. We closed up at about 160 registered yesterday - need 100 more by the end of today to match Monday's tally from 2010. Unfortunately the blue F2G will NOT be among them, as the engine apparently made a bunch of metal last week.

all for now - need to get back to work.

Al, great shots! keep them coming, please!
Are you using available light or are you able to add some light source for your photos?

It's a bit ambient light and a bit of flashlight painting using a long exposure.

Glad you all are enjoying the shots.

It's getting to be that time where my shots posted will slow down as i'm out there from about 10am - 1am and it doesn't leave me with much time to work on pics. I'll put up anything that stands out if I can.

Bummer to hear no F2G.

And Twilight Tear is a real beauty. Interesting tanks on it.
