You're probably right 330, a living, breathing veteran 6023rd member would probably have nothing
interesting to add to your -29 information base. It's all on the web..somewhere.. :wink:

I sent a message to a friend at Boeing requesting a photo of her, maybe he can turn something up. They found a pic of our C-97 being built...

I know this wasn't an active aircraft, but wouldn't this have been the last flight of an Air Force B-29? This is from the March Field Museum's website.

The B-29 at the March Field Museum is an A model serial number 44-61669. It was delivered to the USAAF on 5 May 1945 at the Boeing facility in Renton, Washington. It was assigned to the 20th Air Force, 73rd Bomb Wing, 500th Bomb Group, 833rd Bomb Squadron flying combat missions out of Saipan. It carried the name "Flagship 500" and had a "Z-49" on its tail at the end of WWII. Its last USAF assignment was in 1956 with the 581st Air Resupply Group at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa. It was transferred as a TB-29A trainer to the US Navy on 18 March 1956. The aircraft was recovered from the Naval Test Center at China Lake, restored by a private organization, and flown from Daggett Field, Barstow, to March AFB in January, 1981 by MARC (Military Aircraft Restoration Corp.). This aircraft is on loan from the USAF.

I'll defer to my betters if I'm wrong, but I think since she had been struck off the records..other than NMUSAF
oversight, she's no longer an USAF bird.

I changed my mind Maxam96, still Air Force owned, regardless of who flew it, I agree. :wink:

Thanks for trying Airlift! If someone cared enough to mark and keep that little bit o' scrap Gunner shared with us, then
there's a good chance a photo is somewhere.

I flew on the last B-29's out of Naha, Okinawa 1959-1960. 6023rd Radar Evaluation, ECM. I have a few flight line photo's, my log books and other details of our operations.
