T-32C Curtiss Condor Props

Sat Sep 24, 2005 10:26 pm

Prop/ A & P Folks:

The pics below are of 2 Hamilton Standard Controllable props with 3-counterweights found at the crash site of a Honduran AF (FAH #7) Condor T-32C that went down in the jungle c. 1942.

They were attached once to 2 Curtiss-Cyclone 1820 F-2 engines of 720 HP each. Can some of the A&P/Prop folks tell us a bit more of what these 2 props show? Were the engines running? one a bit slow perhaps? Tks FAH 619

Prop blades curled forward usually means a crash under power while blades curled aft means that that engine was at low power or had failed.

Unfortunately, the pictures are of too poor of a grade to tell anything other than the left prop was probably not turning at impact and the right was. A detailed damage analysis would be able to tell you a considerable amount of information about the impact.
