NAS Oceana's airshow is coming up so I went to have a look at their lineup and noticed there will be a "SB2C Hellcat" in attendance!!! That's a rare bird indeed......most likely the only one
So anybody know what really WILL BE there? Should I expect a Hellcat or a Helldiver or neither?
Thanks!
Johnny

CAF Helldiver was apparently scheduled to attend, but now has canceled.

Instead, the CAF Dauntcat will be taking its place.

Hope this clears the issue up.

And yet they haven't gotten any of Yagen's birds there in years. That show's gone way down hill.

Rich, the reason for that if I understood it correctly from someone involved with scheduling the FF aircraft for shows, is that the folks at Oceana ask for 'bids' from those with the aircraft. The CAF as I understand it has been the 'low bidder' the past few years. They (Oceana airshow folks) seem to have the mind set, that because the FF aircraft are close by, they should supply aircraft to the show at a lower price. That being said this explanation is also open to correction but I believe it to be very very close.

A line up of the FF's FM-2, FG-1D, 'Raider' and the newly repainted PBY would have been a killer linup for this years show.

The NAS Oceana Air Show is proud to partner with the Military Aviation Museum of Virginia Beach to bring you some of the finest United States Navy Warbirds available in North America. The Military Aviation Museum was born from its owner’s passion for WWII era warplanes. It has evolved from what began as a simple interest to what is now today one of the world’s largest collections of flying WWII military aircraft. From a collection of salvaged wrecks which any other person might sell for scrap, Military Aviation engineers & experts embarked on skillfully restoring these flying machines to what is now the heart of the museum. The Museum began as a small private grass airfield in Pungo, Virginia Beach, Virginia and has grown into a 65,000 sq ft museum with five additional new buildings currently in progress. Mr. Gerald Yagen is proud to bring you flying versions of the FG-1D Corsair, AD-4 Skyraider, TBM Avenger, SNJ-4 Texan, Navy N3N and a Navy Stearman.

Well that's cool they worked something out then, Oceana wasn't on the last schedule I looked at here in the shop at Suffolk.

Great news, glad they "saw the light" and decided to partner with the MAM. Being as how it's the NavAir Centennial and all, it only makes sense! :)
