Warbirds: Greenville Tx Texarkana, Little Rock, Memphis?

Tue Aug 23, 2011 5:59 pm

In a few months I will be making the drive from central Tx to Clarksville, TN for my base move. I will be going through Dallas (been to all the museums there), then Greenville, Texarkana, Little Rock, and Memphis along the way there. Does anyone know of any warbirds based around there, or any museums? I would love to stop through these places i havent been through before, and maybe not again any time soon. Thanks for any info!

Spotted an F-105 at the Jacksonville, Arkansas (about 10 miles NE of Little Rock on Hwy. 67 / 167) Museum of Military History. Can't comment on the museum as we didn't go in.

There is an F-111 at the Turner Military Surpluss store, just off of I-30, some 20 miles WEST of Texarkana.

231 Shiloh Road
Leary, TX 75561
PH: 903.832.6985

The guy had a large collection of WW-II memorabilia, including a good number of aircraft identification models.
I visited this place several years ago, and I recall the F-111 being for sale, as well as a number of drop tanks from F-111s, C-130s.

There was also an M-113 simulator for sale.

If you have the time, you should visit the Jacksonville, Arkansas museum. Interesting displays, and the museum administrator is nice, and to top it all, beautiful... :D :D :D

Saludos,

Tulio

Take the longer route east out of Dallas along I-20 and go visit the HAMM museum in Tyler, TX.

I may be able to check out the other 2, but I think Tyler is too far out of the way for this trip. bummer.

After you're done with the F-111 Tulio pointed out, there is a former Texas ANG T-33 in Spring Lake Park just before you get to the State Line Ave. exit in T-Ark, Tex. on the south access of I-30...don't remember if there is an entrance on that side. I google/satellited it last night, it's just south of the municipal pool at the corner of Streets A and D just north of Spring Lake(pond).

EDIT...Oh yeah don't forget to check Mike's Aerialvisual Locater before your trip.

For Little Rock...not much to see (outside) other than the Jacksonville Military Museum. 105 outside and a lot of pretty cool stuff inside, though. There's a pretty good collection on base at LRAFB if you can get in...I think Randy posted a bunch of pictures a while back. LRAFB used to be a SAC base, IIRC.
