Would anyone know where to obtain a very high resolution copy of this photo? Or possibly a copy of the negative?

I have wanted to make a poster sized print (24 X 36 minimum) of this photo for a very long time, but I can't find anything with good enough resolution to make that big of a print.

This scan is from a copy of the pic I bought off eBay, crop markings on the photo included at no extra charge.

Thanks! :D

That's probably as good as you're going to get since it was (I'm guessing) shot with a hand held Government issue 'Box Brownie' with fixed focus out an open window in -35* temps by a 20 something kid wearing thick gloves on film that was a bit light on silver due to other, more strategic needs for silver during the war.

The original neg might be with NARA. Google them to get in touch. I've spent days going through some of their hundreds of thousands (millions?) of proofs. It's fascinating. Sometimes the pictures we see all the time have interesting parts along the sides cropped out. Good luck.

One of the great photos to come out of the war in my humble opinion.

Dave, If you have not already found a place where you can get the photo, you might want to check w/ the folks at the 390th Memorial Museum at www.390th.org They might be able to vector you onto the correct heading.

You may want to check with professional and/or commercial photographers in your area. I know software exists that allows you to blow up an image to large sizes without losing resolution.

The old NARA code is visible in the lower right of the picture, 26566AC.
It is available on Footnote/Fold3 HERE, whether the resolution is good enough for your purposes I can't say.

All the best,
PB

Thanks for the link, Paul; and the other ideas, guys - thinking about my options. I need to check into that enlargement with no resolution loss idea.

:D
