Note for Mustangdriver! F-22's coming to Grissom!

Langley is flying 20 F-22's to Grissom AFB this weekend because of Hurricane Irene.
Anybody in the Indiana/Ohio area might get you camera's out and get more Raptor shots in one place than any of us!

When I saw that on the news yesterday I thought that it was going to make alot of aircraft spotters very happy.

Hopefully some of the F-22 group will have time to tour the Grissom Museum.

Guess they flew at FL15 or lower... :-/ Still haven't resolved the oxygen generator issue, last I heard. Glad to hear they're getting some flight time though- they've been grounded so long, the pilots are in danger of losing their proficiency rating on them. Irene may have been a blessing in disguise for them!

Grisssom has a nice billeting setup, I stayed there in May. Took me back to my active duty days.

At least they can protect Bunker Hill from those South Bend mobs...

Have heard form a couple of different places that they were given one time waivers to get them out of Langley before the storm, and that there is concern they might get stuck at Grissom for some time because a waiver for a return flight has not been granted. Can't imagine that it wouldn't, but wouldn't that be a kick in the gut to the Raptor community to have them stuck on the ground without any of their support infrastructure?

Several of us in the area saw them arriving for quite awhile on Friday. Flying over on my way to somewhere else I snapped some quick pictures with a cruddy camera...

Saturday Mustangdriver was at the Flying Heritage Collection and Historic Flight Foundation at Paine Field, Washington. Sunday he was at Evergreen and Tillamook, Oregon. The F-22s may be gone by the time he gets home!

Yup, they're gone... saw two of'em on final this afternoon coming back home to Langley, and heard several others fly over while I was in the Food Lion at Warwick Center (it's right under the flight path when they're coming in from the west). Nice to see them airborne again, if only briefly!
