Looking for parts...Bristol freighter

Sat Sep 10, 2011 12:42 pm

The Alberta Aviation Museum may have the opportunity to acquire a derelict, damaged Bristol Freighter...negotiations are underway.

If acquired the intent would be to restore the aircraft to a static public display status with a finished interior that could be toured.

But it will need the location of a considerable number of parts.

Cargo doors
Axles and Wheels
Core engines and mounts
Cowls
Virtually everything in the cockpit
Perpex (if possible)
and darn near everything else other than the main airframe, wings and tail.

Appreciate any leads or information on locating parts as this is an important aircraft to us historically as it operated right from our airfield and of course by the RCAF.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you are going for the wreck at Beaverlodge Lake! That's fantastic news. You should try posting your needs on the Flypast Forum, or one of the New Zealand fora as well.

Cheers,
Richard

PS. If you look through the photos here, you will see the engine mounts and firewalls lying nearby.

You will find this thread of interest. The old girl is about 50m from my office.

I am not at liberty to release which Bristol it is until the paperwork is cleared and done unfortunately. Condition of the negotiation.

Once that happens I will be happy to release the details.

But I do appreciate the lead and will be following up on it.

Thanks so much and would appreciate any others.

I have posted in the flypast forum and would appreciate any info on the New Zealand forums.

Will also be e-mailing all contacts that we currently have in the Southern part of the Globe.

Truly hoping this one can come together

Tom

If it's the one we all think it is, it's simply amazing how well-preserved it is after 55 years of simply lying there.

I see you've found my photos of the Bristol on Beaverlodge Lake, I do have a few more on the hard drive that I can post.

I was back at the site last week, and I have to correct myself, the engine mounts I found in the bush actualy belong to a Cessna Crane wreck which is also in the bush nearby. Photos of the Crane can be found on my flickr site as well:

Although I feel a special honour to be able to see these planes where they've lied for over 50 years, it would be great to see someone restore them for everyone to see.
