I bought a Food Saver Vacum sealer, so can I...

Use it on my guns that I don't use very much? I was thinking that I could put a few packets of Desiccant in each package and then seal up my gun in it, it comes in 18 ft rolls so there should be plenty.

Pro and Cons to this idea?

my only suggestion would be to wrap the guns in accid free paper or linen first, then vacuum seal them. If the seal is correct there probably isn't a need for decicant since there will be no air for the moisture to goto. But it probably couldn't hurt.

Even in the absence of air, whatever oxygen has been present in the metal, will react slowly and will produce some level of rust. Not as bad as if the weapon is exposed to room air.

Problem with silica and dessicants is IMHO, that they will "suck" any humidity inside the bag, and eventually enough will accumulate to form a small amount of liquid.

A friend of mine has a gun-safe, and keeps a bucket with dessicant inside; the bucket must be emptied every few days, to get rid of all the murky water that has accumualted there.

I keep my toys oiled, but no dessicant. So far, I have yet to find any visible rust.

Tulio
