It can be hard enough some times just to keep one suped-up Merlin or Griffon running, can you even imagine trying to keep to of those beasts up and running to their full potential? Sounds like way to much work. However, if you could pull it off it sure would have to potential to do just about whatever the pilot could imagine. With stock speed in the high 400's, it seems like you could have one slick little ship on your hands!

Idea #1: A Thunder Mustang running an overdriven 6/71 blower (the falconer V-12 was based on a chev 400ci block originally) plus twin turbos running on nitro, there would be plenty of drag racers out there to help out with set-up to make it run for the required length of time and it couldn't be any worse than the over stressed Merlins currently being used.

Idea #2: Scratch build a Commonwealth CA-15 sutibly lightened, radial or Griffon your choice.

Idea #3: A Griffon engined Bronco. :twisted:

How about a Douglas F4D Skyray with a griffon buried behind the pilot and contra-rotating pusher propellers

or a hopped up Bell XP-77 .

I've thought of a Spanish Me 109, the Hispano Ha 1112, fitted with a Griffon & contraprops. Contraprops would help with that narrow landing gear, too.

What about a P-38 with two Griffons in?. You would have to sort out the tail plane flutter problem though!!. I've always wondered why the never re-engined the P-38 with merlins like they did with the P-51 any way?

I think the perfect examlpe exist already, it just needs refining. The 4360 powered Sea Fury called Dreadnought. It just needs a smaller canopy, Kerch's wing mods like they did on 232, a race prepped 4360 and a better prop.

Please explain what you mean by a "better prop."

I have heard from the team that they felt it might go faster with a different blade style. I don't know what exactly, but just different. Personally I'd like to see them try the old three blader that Rare Bear used for several years. Although, I don't think there is a slow nose case for the 4360 so it might not work either.

Well, they are using a Skyraider prop. There were two versions I believe and they have tried them both. Frank had reshaped the blade tips at one time, but there is a limit to how much you can trim the steel blades before you hit the hollow areas!

The C-124 had a pretty large diameter prop on it, so I doubt you'd need more gear reduction. How much faster would you want to turn an R-4360 anyhow?

Bearings seem to be problematic racing the 4360.
