I tried the search and didn't have much luck.
I heard a little on Warbird Radio a while back about the P-59 being worked on at Planes of Fame (I think). As I understood from the interview, it sounded like it wouldn't be long till it flew.
Anybody know any more than that?
Thanks!
Johnny

I have several magazines from 2006 and 2007 that said that the POF P-59 would be flying in about a year after publication.

It appears that time moves @ a different rate out in the wilder parts of Orange County, where's those Swiss neutrinos when you need them?

Like so many things, it comes down to money. We are very close to completion. However, the finishing touches and test flights require additional funds. For now, our wonderful volunteers are finishing up what they can before a final 'checkup' at Fighter Rebuilders. Then, we just need 25K or more to pay for the fuel required for the test flights. Donations can be made to Planes of Fame!

That's OK Cindy,
The group building the DWC replica in Seattle/Renton has missed several key dates for the same reasons and also from being evicted from Plant 2 when it went under the wreckers ball.

Here are some pictures I managed to get when I visited POF in 2009. For all of you non-aircraft maintenance types, first one to identify what doesn't belong wins a pony (a little plastic toy one....and you have to come to Texas to pick it up)

Looks like another top notch restoration from POF! :drink3:

Is that how you "light" off the engine? Nice pics. Hope to see her in the air soon.

From reading about this aircraft when it was under development they hung a fake propeller on the nose of the aircraft to make it look like it was a conventional piston engine. Would the big plywood prop on the back wall be the answer?

And over half a century on, it still don't make the thing go...

How it works...

Time & Budget:
The last 10% of the work takes 90% of the time allotted.
Twice as long for three times the cost of the original estimate, or two times the cost in three times the original time line. Take your pick :)

ZTX61, your budget/timetable analysis is spot on, regardless of the type of vehicle or contrivance.

Well, this is what it looked like after this year's Chino airshow.

Man! I hope that thing makes it out this way eventually! Looks great and can't wait to see more progress.
Yet another one of my rookie type questions: What about corporate sponsorship from, maybe the engine manufacturer? That would be a pretty good advertisement.....the first and STILL flying!
