NMUSAF's C-119 and CASA 352

In the photo of the L-2M landing at the NMUSAF, the C-119 & the CASA 352 are parked in front of the restoration hangars. What work if any is being done to these 2 aircraft? http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/shared ... 47-001.jpg I'm not sure about this but is the C-60 Lodestar parked out there also?

That is not the "Dollar nineteen", it is the museum's C-82. I am thinking that it has been over at restoration for about a year, but my mind sometimes wanders.

You are correct, that is the C-60 Lodestar, as well as the C-99. All cool stuff!

In May, the C-82, B-47 and C-60 were outside the restoration shop. The C-60 might of had some disassembly, IIRC.

Oops, I seem to have gotten my C-119's and my C-82's mixed up. Thanks for the correction.

I toured the shop on Friday, and the C-82 was inside. She's getting some sprucing up, including a repaint and recovered control surfaces. Some of the parts of the Ventura were in the storage hangar, including engines, flaps, and outer wings. The rest is sitting on the ramp. The aircraft is pretty beat up. I can post pics later if anyone's interested.

The tour guide said that the CASA was being offered on loan to other museums..he said the NMUSAF was looking for a new home for it, since it's not a genuine German-built Ju-52. I couldn't get any pics, since they don't allow photography outside the hangars (even though you could easily photograph more "sensitive" areas of the active base from the museum itself than from in front of the restoration shops.)

So with that in mind what do they intend to do? Acquire an original German built JU-52? Honestly I never understood this one before. Whats the difference between the original Junkers and the CASA examples? Why would it be so bad if they restored this one and displayed it as a German Wartime counterpart? I mean, Im not complaining, our museum would be happy to take her and at the very least keep a good maintenance program running on her, but to me it just seems silly that the NMUSAF wouldn't want her.

Is it the Lockheed C-60 Lodestar ...OR is it the Lockheed RB-37 Lexington that was trucked up from Puebleo, CO??

Very well possible. I've never had the chance to get out to Dayton so I don't know the actual spacial difference their.

Have you taken the Museum's virtual tour on their website? It should help it your getting a handle on how much space is needed to show what they do have on display ...

Just got home and got the pics downloaded from the camera. Here's the C-82. Unfortunately, the tour guide said that after her facelift she'll probably go back on outdoor display, at least until the new building goes up (which likely won't be until 2014 or so.)

And here are the Ventura/Lexington parts. The aircraft is definitely the same one that was on outdoor display in Pueblo CO for many years. I wish I could have snapped a couple pics of the fuselage out on the ramp, but rules is rules. The C-60 is still sitting over by the 8th AF control tower mockup, across from the C-141.

Thanks for the pics! It seems strange that work would be done to the C-82 only to place it back on outside display. They sure have alot going on in the restoration area there!
