P-63E Folks:

You are looking somewhere in the left wing of P-63E AAF 43-11732 XFAH 403 landing gear area. Place Toncontin Airport, Honduras. c. May 2011.

Does anyone know how the landing gear of the P-63E attaches to the wing area?? Is the P-39 landing gear compatible to a P-63 wing attach point??

Tks in advance

Some parts are the same, some are different due to size and weight differences.
IIRC the design basics are the same.
Wheels and brakes on the MLG are different. I think the axel is different as well.
Unsure above that.
Good luck.

The bottom of the wing is on the L/H side of the photo.
You are looking straight into the inside of the upper landing gear strut.
The round opening is where the chrome lower strut would insert. This is the part that would move up in and out to act as a shock absorber. Attached to this would be the axel for the wheel and the brake along with the scissors attach point. The upper half of the scissors is still mounted to the upper portion of the strut.
The landing gear door is visible to the left of the upper strut.
The camera is basically where the wheel would be if still attached, but retracted, looking outboard.

The strut appears to be removed the way it normally would. I guess by the manual type instructions.
Why it was removed I don't know.

Each aircraft has parts made to fit that application. Many A/C made be similar and the design principle the same, but whether one would work on another I don't know.

I'm guessing you want to put complete landing gear back on this?

Good day!

Does the previous axle picture looks to you like a P-63E axle?? This axle is installed on a NA-16 nearby & we have suspected for some time it looks like a Bell P-63 product.

It has stamped on the metal the following numbers: 353841 (top) & 8480247 (bottom).

Tks in advance

I suspect not.
From Memory the scissors attach on the side rather than the rear.

Z-7:

I am pretty sure your NA-16 is on its proper landing gear. For starters, it looks similar to Yale/T-6 landing gear, in every way except the two lugs welded on the fork. I suspect those have to do with the original wheel covers (pants). Also and equally important, the P-63 has disk brakes and your NA-16 clearly has Hayes drum brakes. I would baby that NA-16 if I were you. It is extremely rare - one of a kind I believe.

Rob C:

Good day!

Tks for the data & input of the landing gear fearing details. That may very well be the case.

As far for ther care of the NA-16 and other jewels, (F4U-5, P-63, AT-6 & others) in the current Museum their future is very doubtful.

Under the current provisions of the current museum regime their priorities are as follows:

1. Admin Stuff
2. Museum Construction/bldgs
3. Aircraft restoration/ TLC last.

While there may me other versions by my colleague Jaldo, the facts and pictures speak for themselves. The aircraft are simply deteriorating in outside storage at the mercy of the elements.
