It will be in Bob Neale's markings, the paint scheme was done with rubber masks, like the originals. Most visitors like the tiger markings and nearly all of the kid's say the tooth plane is their favorite. I admit I've wanted this paint scheme ever since the area 51 days.

Wow...a thread complaining about paint jobs on other peoples airplanes. I predict the next post will be someone threatening to leave WIX. This could really get interesting...

I'm off now to paint invasion stripes on my L-2. I'll be sure to post some pics when I'm done.

Matt

Matt,
You're late to the party. It's already been done.

I for one will take being able to fly an invasion-striped L-2 over not having it.

Thanks Norm. Wasn't sure if that was to be public knowledge yet. Looks fantastic so far.

So much for FHC's 'accuracy' program regarding markings, the airplane was already in British tiger mouth markings. In the sake of accuracy it should be done in Russian markings as it was a lend lease aircraft and was recovered still in those markings, from Russia.

Inspector...
I did a little search, is this the same A/C?
http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/sheppard/p40recovery/index.htm

If it is then there would be another option besides the Russian markings...The 3rd photo down...
"The early ‘star and meatball’ emblem (later replaced with just the standard American star) on the side of the P40C.
Over it can be the individual Russian aircraft number ‘53’. (Mark Sheppard)."

Just finish it before delivery?
I guess that would less glamorous than a 'Sharkmouth' though.

It's sad to see another genuine warbird that could tell an interesting story losing identity. I guess you have to dumb it down for Joe Public.... :(

Sorry, if the aircraft has an authentic operational/combat scheme I personally think it should be finished in those colours.

All over Olive drab, Russian stars and '53' would have been nice to see even if for a season.

Not to be.

Someone digs a 60 year old airplane out of a swamp. Spends millions to restore it to flying condition. Puts it on public display and flies it at public airshows.

And people bitch because of how it is painted?

C'mon man!

Kykleb,
We're not bicthing about the paint scheme but about a missed opportunity.
There is no P-40 currently flying in russian colors and this particular P-40 has flown with the russians.

and how many P-40C's would be flying in AVG colors if this one was marked as Russian?

There are few warbirds, flying or not, that actually have combat history. This particular airplane has a very unique history. Yet it that unique history is basically being pushed to the side. That is the real issue here, and I think that's the real issue on most of the paint discussion threads.

Still, it is a P-40C, and it is awesome as it sits. If they have to put a sharkmouth on this one to make the kids buy a t-shirt and keep the doors open so we can look at the rest of the FHC's really fantastic collection (accurate paint on most all the planes there more or less), I'm still a little bugged by it, but much less so than I might be by other resto-mod paint jobs. And like I said, I bought the t-shirt so it worked on me to a degree.

I probably would've still bought a t-shirt if it had a big red star and a 53 on it, but that's just me.

SUPER 18,
that's the bird! And Chris, I respect your opinion about Russian markings so please don't look or listen when the I-16 RATA is being flown.
The Docents @ FHC will be glad to point out to you the bullet hole patches on the P-40 created over the Rodina-

I know what will solve this....... more P-40B/C's!!!!!! Then the others could represent the AVG, etc. and this one can go back into her historical scheme!
