ImageFor those of you going out to the Wings Over Houston Airshow this weekend, behind the grandstands you can see at my booth the huge model that I made a while back of the USS Texas. The hull is made out of a Lockheed Jetstar fuel tank. Before y'all start to chew on me, yes, it isn't 100% accurate.

CAF-West Houston Squadron and guests did a fly-by of the Battleship TEXAS today in recognition of the Texas Navy and Pearl Harbor Day.

Yours truly took some snaps while trying to avoid hitting the other traffic.
There were three flights up .
Battleship 1 was a PT-19, a PT-26 and a Stinson 108
Battleship 2 was an AT-6, an SNJ and a BT-13
Battleship 3 was a Lockheed Lodestar C-60

Something for everyone. The weather wasn't the prettiest and it was fairly bumpy.

Happy pre- Pearl Harbor Observations.

she looks a great deal darker than when I last saw her in the 70's. Is she more accurately painted now?

They did a fairly major renovation in the 1990's. Towed her nearly 30 miles to a shipyard in Galveston where they patched up the hull (some more), then chipped off the concrete decks and replaced with wood planking, repainted to sea blue camo color. It was a huge improvement, those concrete decks were truly dreadful, ugh!

There was five(I think 5 ) PT boats here in VA on the Elizabeth river up until a few years back. They were in Dry Storage at a private boat yard. There was also some kind of low Visibility navy boat there as well with them, it was newer most likely built in the last 25 years or so it was d'millled had tons of axe and fork lift holes in it. If I remember right there was two newer landing craft stored there at one time as well.

Those 5 would probably have been the Nasty class boats that were for sale for so long. I think most started to rot and they were scrapped.
