(Almost hate to ask.......)
Curious, are those original primer colors for the landing gear pieces?
Thank you,
VL

The landing gears of ME109 generally are painted with that green color, probably named RLM84, but the RLM chart is so complicated, may be Mathhias will add more infos. the cockipt inside is grey, RLM 02.
Matthias, please continue your reports it is so interesting, even from France where I live. the brothers are doing an excellent work in germany. felicitations

no, this is not the primer color, theses colors are original WW2 color tones, here RLM02.
RLM02 was used for the landing gear, cockpit and so on. As the guideline said : all parts not lying in the airstream are painted RLM02.

Stupid question alert: is this the re-engined Buchon that used to be on display at the NMUSAF?

Steve, yes it is. And Matthias is mostly correct about RLM 02 being specified as the interior color for all non-exterior surfaces... the only exception would be the areas visible through the glazing, which are to be painted in RLM 66 Schwartzgrau (black-grey). This changeover was mandated from Nov 1941, although several companies (particularly Junkers) had been using 66 almost exclusively for their cockpits for a couple years before the mandate.
Matthias, thanks so much for showing the disassembled gear legs... I had occasionally wondered how the wheel alignment was set and your photos give an absolutely unequivocal answer. That is indeed a clever method!
Cheers,
Lynn

Matthias,
Can you give us a sneak peak on what Mustang the TF-51 will represent when she gets finished?
Keep up the updates, we all love them!
