This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Any more news on who in the U. S. owns the Shturmovik that recently flew in Russia? I'm told by a very reliable source that it's definitely not Jerry Yagen, so I'm assuming Paul Allen?

That's my guess.

Now that would be a 'FLY DAY' !!!!!!

the PO-2, the I-16, the il-2, and Allens Mig-29 UTI, would pretty much cover Russian aviation wouldn't it?

Hardly.
You'd also need a Yak 9, maybe a Yak-3, a MiG-15 and a MiG-21 to do that, at a minimum...

Tom,
I was speaking more along the lines of eras, from 80 mph sticks and rags to a transitional airframe (I-16) which was sort of in both worlds, the maturation of serious dedicated ground attack on a large scale, up to double sonic, pretty much cutting edge. Granted YAKs, Lagg's, Mig 15, and a Mig 21 would round out the package but it would be like saying you can't adequately represent the history of the Indy 500 without having 85 cars in your collection instead of fewer, but more pivotal cars

(It was actually me, Stephan, taking issue with your Soviet-aviation selections, not Tom.)
What I meant was that you're leaving a big gap between a couple of old-timers and plus a crude ground-attack airplane, and then a fourth-generation jet. Just as you wouln't be able to fairly represent Indy cars with a Marmon, Mauri Rose's Maserati, a '50s roadster and Dan Wheldon's Dallaraa.

Have to agree with Stephan.
PO-2 - WWI
I-16 - Interwar
Il-2 - WWII
MiG-29UTI - Late Cold War
You missed -
Korea
Vietnam (era)/Early Cold War
Afghanistan/Late Cold War
3 major parts of the history of the USSR.
I would suggest a representation would be PO-2, I-16, Il-2, MiG-15/17, MiG-21, Su-25/MiG-23/27, MiG-29. That would cover all the major eras and leaps in Soviet aviation technology from Biplanes, to Monoplanes, to Modern Monoplanes, to Jets, to Supersonic Jets, to 2nd/3rd Generation Jets/Attack, to 4th Generation "Superfighters".

http://www.heraldnet.com/article/200806 ... te=SCBJart"Other Flying Heritage Collection aircraft in various stages of restoration include a Goodyear FG-1D Corsair; North America B-25J Mitchell; Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress; a jet-propelled Messerschmitt Me 262A-1a Schwalbe; Ilyushin IL-2M-3 Shturmovik; Lockheed P-38J Lightning; Casa 2.111D (Heinkel He 111H); North American F-86A Sabre; Yakovlev Yak-3U; Republic F105G Thunderchief; Vought F-8 Crusader; Mikoyan and Gurevich MiG-21 Mongol; BAE/Hawker GR-3 Harrier and a DeHavilland DH98 Mosquito." If this still remains true (originally written in 2008), that should take care of things quite well, covering Russian military aviation (on top of what FHC already has on display).

Unlikely.

It would be interesting to see an Illushin Il-28 Beagle in the West. That would round out the collection nicely.
Po-2 is interwar, not WWI. Basically a Stearman-equivalent in age and mission, though Po-2 was built both before and after the Stearman (production continued into the 1950s!)

As long as it's Allens money, why not? For those additions he will need a much bigger hanger facility @ KPAE as Bldg. 207 is getting kinda cramped with what's in there now.
And tell me where else you can go and see the aforementioned aircraft types flying and never leave your folding chair?

I seem to recall FHC describing that their Mig-29 will be displayed on a 'rotational' basis (rotated into museum display on occasion, and kept at off-site facilities in between (as it is right now)), and this may be applied to more of their aircraft as further restorations are completed (various aircraft kept on a rotional display cycle), that is if FHC doesn't have any plans for a larger museum facility, or an expansion upon what they already have (if that is even possible?).

Yay!!! I was just at FHC today for my weekly visit. I had a suspicion that it was coming here, but man it's great to hear it officially!! I look forward to taking hundreds of pics of the new member of the FHC family as soon as she arrives!
