Well, I thought I'd turn to the forum to see what turns up. I have tried for the last year to find a difinitive work or article on the different types and logos that were installed on P & W engines. I have collected about 17 and would like to know how many more are out there. The odder ones are as follows....
Buick
Chevrolet
Commonwealth Aircraft Company
Continental
Ford: 1 blue with Eagle and 1 dark blue and red with the FORD (kinda rare) across the middle
Jacobs
Nash: 1 dark blue and red with NASH across the middle (rare) and 1 aluminum one with the blue field and Eagle
P & W blue field with Patent
P & W blue field blank
P & W Canadian

Any help would be appreciated.....Tailwinds, Steve.

I can second that,

I also have a FORD Pratt and Whitney emblem, that was given to me from a friend who was and I believe still is into making parts for Corsairs.

i have a blank emblem, does that mean it was made at p&w directly, or is there a possibility that it was outsourced by subcontracting anyway????

I tend to think that is probably P & W as the sub-contractors were only too proud to put their names on them. The heavy more curved bronze types had a beautiful translucent look to the Eagles brown feathers with a 3D look underneath the tinted vitreous enamel. They also seem to change colors with different angles to the brown. These were more of the older cloisonne types that were just beautiful.

The older ones (pre-December 1939) tended to be blank with the later ones (40s up) having the patent pending across the bottom blue field. The newer reproduction types are flatter, thinner, and look painted with no translucence to the brown feathers and also have the patent. The older origional types on the bronze blanks usually have this on the back....

ROBBINS CO
ATTLLBORO

or

W&H CO

Also the Pratt & Whitney across the top above the Eagle had ,USA from 1926 to 1945 and then Aircraft 1945 to 1960....Canada P & W who made 1149 engines under license, had Pratt & Whitney Canadian above the Eagle.

I think the only ones that I haven't seen or picked up yet is the Continental, Pratt & Whitney Canadian, and the Australian CAC ones.... I'm still lookin'! Tailwinds, Steve.[/u]

They are farmed out to a Fabricator of Jewelry. We were going to give a bunch out to the goys with 40 years but it cost to much.
