I read the book first and the movie is very true to it. It is a fascinating study of men in battle.

The movie is very "Hollywood-ish" in parts and is only so/so in my opinion... The book is great and I think the PBS documentary "Frontline: Ambush In Mogadishu" and the History Channel program "The True Story of Black Hawk Down" are much better than the movie. Both are included in the 3-disc DVD special edition.

I thought it was an excellent film. but VERY intense. Kind of like the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan, but for two hours. I saw it in the theater, and about halfway through was wishing for an intermission just to decompress a bit. Definitely not something I'd just pop in on a rainy afternoon for some light entertainment!
I heard a radio interview with a guy who crewed one of the helos (he said his choppper can be heard in the radio chatter in the movie.) He said that it was about dead-on accurate, although a few events had to be compressed and characters combined..nohting unusual for a dramatization.

I had the exact same impression. The attention to detail for the MH-60s, uniforms, the airport hangar, and downtown were remarkable for Hollywood. I too read the book and have often said that I wish every US citizen would see this film and learn the story.

Loved it. About as little creative license as can be expected in a non-documentary.

Too bloody for my liking. When I watch a film I want to enjoy it. I don't enjoy blood.
Nice signature BTW.
